Enrollment and Class Size: 2010-11 Stacie Vos(Hand-out Class Size 2010-11)
Enrollment has increased by 30 students. The average class size at Tech is 28 students. Social Studies Geography 9th Gr. classes have close to 40 students. Electives have lower class sizes because they are usually single classes offered that won’t fit into the students schedule. Hopefully with 30 extra students, Tech will get an FTE to help with the larger classes. Jackie Peterson shared regarding the ELL Program at Tech. St. Cloud has attained many refugees. The ELL Dept. was decreased 1 position this year. (Last year there were 3 ELL Teachers at Tech.) This has caused 5 additional classes to be split between the 2 remaining teachers. Current Enrollment at Tech: 9th Gr. 379 10th Gr. 332, 11th Gr. 368 12th Gr. 352 for a total of 1, 431 students. Discussion.

Office of Civil Rights visit
The OCR (Office of Civil Rights) will be visiting in October. This is a nationwide organization made up of many nationality groups (Iranian, Indian, modern Muslims, etc.) Apollo and Tech were named in a complaint. The Somali Leaders have said they do not agree with this and did not want this to go forward. Tech has had a history of working very hard to act on what’s fair for a student no matter the color. The School Attorney will be meeting with Tech and Apollo Administration next week to prepare for the OCR Visit.

World War II Recognition and Celebration
This is the 65th Anniversary of WWII and Roger Ziemann will be recognizing family members of Tech Staff who served. Staff was asked for a paragraph by Oct. 1st about stories of their fathers, mothers uncles, aunts, and grandparents who served in WWII.  Roger will put the stories on E-News and the website.

Other:
Anti-Bullying Policy:Administration has been meeting regarding some of the 9th grade behaviors. Daily the Administration has received e-mails from concerned parents regarding behaviors.  Last school year, 09-10, Data showed 22 or fewer fights.  This is the current policy in place for offenses: 1st Offense - 5 day suspension, meeting with School Administrator, Policy Ticket and parent phone call. 2nd Offense - 10 day suspension, BPU Meeting as well as ticket & parent call. 3rd Offense the student is referred to ALC for more support and intervention. PBIS promotes Pride, Respect and Responsibility.  Everyone needs to do their part in sticking up for those being bullied and report it right away. Typically bullying has not been seen in the 10th, 11th or 12th grades this year. The Link Crew Program has significantly helped.  The 9th Grade is larger this year and Administration is being pro-active by promoting respect in the classrooms.

Graduation: A member asked if there was any way to do more for elderly people who attend Graduation.  Trying to get them into the building and seated can be difficult.  If you have an elderly parent and you need help, administration can arrange for easier access into the buildings.

Meeting adjourned 7:15PM. Next Meeting Monday, October 25th, 6:00 PM
